London on Lockdown

Get ready for isolation, it is here…

Maybe the UK Prime Minister didn’t technically say lockdown but essentially that is what we are facing. We have watched multiple countries already go through this process in one way or another and now for the health and well-being of ourselves and the more vulnerable isolation or ‘quarantine’ is upon us.

Here is a summary of what’s to essentially be enforced for the next 3 weeks:

  1. Wash your hands properly - every 20 minutes

  2. Work from home - Unless you are a key worker e.g. health sector, educational sector, food and essential goods, public safety and security etc.

  3. Schools are closed - Homeschool children

  4. Restaurants, pubs, religious services and other social activities are closed/cancelled.

  5. Mass gatherings cancelled. e.g. concerts.

  6. No public gatherings of more than 2 people - So don’t meet your friends at the park...

  7. Social distancing = Stay 2m away from people outside of your household.

  8. Only leave your home for:

    • Medical reason

    • To care for a vulnerable/elderly person

    • To do essential grocery shopping (Once a week if possible and only one person shopping for the family)

A lot of ‘no’s’ and do not’s’ floating around this however this is what we have to do to protect everyone as much as possible - Whilst thanking those who are on the front line continuing as recognised key workers to keep the country and individual lives ticking along.

For London in particular this is the greatest shift I think the city has seen in a hell of a long time. A lot of companies had already started setting people up to work from home last week so I got to see how empty the streets and tubes started to get.. For someone like me that does 1hour commute + 20min walk every day to work this made my day easier, I’m not going to lie..

But as of this week London lockdown is in full force and none other than ITV can show you the dramatic differences seen around the city.

I don’t think this is the peak of the matter by any means. This is a pandemic the majority of people alive in the UK have never witnessed before and who knows really how we will cope in this modern day.

I’d hope that we can take this time to reflect on the things and people that are important and how we can help rather than hinder others. I’m now working from home with Ash and my family - full house!

We’ll see how the next few weeks go and check back in soon with another post. Let me know what your situation is and how you’re getting on in the comments below.
