The Making of a Simple Life

What does that even mean really?!

This can mean different things to many different people… however for me it’s making time and space for doing more of the things I enjoy and reducing the things I don’t!

The most difficult part of getting to this point is recognising that you are probably going to go against society norms. How you accept and embrace that for your own well being is what makes the difference. Here’s some simple things I tend to live by…

Priorities

  • Figure out what your priorities are right now - you can build everything else around those.

  • Family, friends, business, career, home etc.

People

  • Treat people kindly and be open.

  • Don’t bother with people who wouldn’t/don’t do the same for you.

  • Reach out to people you genuinely care about.

  • Stick to your word and promises.

  • Confront people where you need to and then let it go…

Things

  • Figure out what is important to you right now.

  • Think about what you think will be important to you in your near future.

  • Don’t hold onto something ‘just incase’.

  • Don’t hold onto something because you ‘feel bad’ e.g. a item gifted to you.

  • Don’t hold onto something because you have been told by someone else that it’s sentimental.

Self-care

  • Do what matters to you and makes you feel good. Not particularly what you think you’re expected to do.

  • Keep your routine the same and as simple as possible. E.g. I aim not to use too many products on my skin so my morning routine is super quick.

  • For me, making everyday ‘processes’ quick and simple really does make a difference! Another way I do this is by batch cooking different meals for the whole week ahead.

  • Take time for yourself. This doesn’t have to be meditation by any means but take a minute, do something you enjoy for half an hour… even if that means do nothing at all.

To be honest a lot of these probably look like me trying to ‘stick it to the man’ but being unconventional is not a bad thing. Have confidence in yourself and what works for you… If you don’t know what works for you at this point then it may be time to take a moment and look at that priorities section again. But remember we all have to relook at our priorities and what works in our day to day lives every once in a while as times and people change…
